Jim Ryan Has Confirmed That PS5 Will Launch Globally
During a recent interview, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s president and CEO Jim Ryan confirmed that despite the challenges the company has faced lately, the PS5 will be launching globally this holiday. COVID-19 has slowed production on the next-gen console down and slowed development of upcoming titles due to working from home but according to Ryan, the company is still on track to release the PS5 globally on time. With the current generation of PlayStation closing with The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima, it’ll be interesting to see what launch titles the next-gen PlayStation will have to offer.
“We are obviously principally occupied with getting ready for PS5. I think most businesses would find themselves challenged with the working-from-home environment,” said Jim Ryan. “I do think the way that the various groups within PlayStation have responded has been magnificent. There are the hardware engineers who are having to work without being able to get into China, where PS5 will be assembled. That’s kind of tough. The software engineers who are building these great features, who are building a great PS5 UI… some of that can be readily done in isolation. But when it comes to putting it all together, that’s not easy to do remotely and they’re doing a great job.”
“Finally, the people who make games,” continued the SIE president and CEO. “We, and our partners, seem to be coping really well. And so we are on track. We are going to launch this holiday and we’re going to launch globally. We’re really looking forward to it and it’s going to be a blast.” It’ll be nice to see what games will be on the PS5 when the games showcase occurs next week.
