Resident Evil 3 Producer on the Jill Valentine Redesign

A More Photo-Realistic Feel

If you’ve been keeping up with Resident Evil 3 Remake, you probably have noticed that there has been a Jill Valentine redesign. Her famous tube top and skirt combo have been replaced with a much more apocalypse-ready outfit of tank top and jeans. The spiritual elements are still there, with the colour scheme of blue, white, and black. Her face also has been changed quite a bit as well for a more realistic female face.

I think most people were happy with the new look, but it was a question on people’s minds regardless. In an interview with Edge Magazine, producer Peter Fabiano had this to say about the Jill Valentine Redesign:

“But with this game, everything is on a photorealistic level; it’s more of a believable atmosphere we’re trying to create. We want to have a Jill that fit in that, but still stayed true to her original personality and essence. And that’s really how we came about the new Jill.”

I think it all makes sense, and I really love her new face. Jill in the past has never really looked like a person I can imagine in real life, like an actress or something. With this change, I have no problem imagining her as real, and within the realistically remade Raccoon City, I think she will fit right in. Also, it is nice to have some job appropriate clothes as well. I mean, I can imagine the original get-up on her night out, but once the apocalypse hits, I’d expect her to change into something a bit more practical. The lady is resourceful enough to find magic healing herbs in dumpsters, you telling me she can’t find a clean set of clothes?

This isn’t to say that I’m not a fan of the original costume, it’s absolutely iconic. This new look is just the sensible direction to take with how the remake is looking. Also, I’m willing to bet anyone like $100 that Capcom will put in a classic costume as a DLC or unlockable. I would not worry.
