Lets Hope This Won’t Be like Fallout 76 Collector’s Edition
Bethesda’s last collector’s edition with Fallout 76 didn’t go so well… to put it lightly. Not only was the game absolute trash, but the items included were literal trash. One of the most upsetting features was the fact that the advertised “canvas bag” wasn’t made out of canvas, but cheap plastic. Today there was an announcement that the Doom Eternal Collector’s Edition won’t be shipping with the soundtrack. At least they are being upfront about it this time.
I doubt that Bethesda won’t make the same mistake as they did with Fallout 67 with Doom Eternal Collector’s Edition. Having to ship out a faulty product, ensuing battle with angry customers, then having to make and ship out the canvas bags anyways cost them way more than it would have to just deliver the product in the first place. Again, it is the weirder objects that are causing the problem. Not a plastic prop or figure, they are used to that. But how about a canvas bag? How about a cassette tape?
That’s right, the Doom Eternal Collector’s Edition comes with a playable cassette tape loaded with the game’s soundtrack. Of course, there will be a code to download the soundtrack digitally, but come on! The nostalgia! Doom being one of the grandfathers of modern gaming, homages to the original is definitely to be expected. However, I’m wondering where the hell do they still have the capacity to mass-produce cassette tapes anymore? Yea… I’m sure that is what Bethesda are scratching their heads over.
The collector’s edition will still arrive on the promised date, so the players won’t miss out on playing as soon as the game goes live. The code for the digital soundtrack will be included, but they will have to wait for the cassette to be delivered at another date. Bethesda is also offering refunds for the product if the customer contacts their support.
