Nintendo Now Considering Cloud Save Function for Animal Crossing New Horizons

Japanese Website Update Shows Possibility of Cloud Save in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Nintendo may be coming around to the idea of enabling cloud saves for Animal Crossing New Horizons. If implemented, cloud saves would only be available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Pre-Order

Reporters over at Nintendo Life discovered this development by running the Japanese Animal Crossing New Horizons website through Google Translate.

“This software does not support “Save Data Storage” of Nintendo Switch Online, but in case of failure, loss or theft of the Nintendo Switch [console], we are considering a function to back up save data. Use of this function is limited to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Correspondence time is undecided. We will inform you as soon as the time is decided,” reads the translation.

Previously, Nintendo had said there would no cloud save support for the Switch title.

“New Horizons will not be compatible with cloud backups to avoid manipulating time, which remains one of the founding concepts of the series.”

Each Animal Crossing game has featured the character Mr. Resetti, who has chastised players for their time manipulation antics. The newest entry in the series will feature auto-save which will leave Resetti out of a job.

If cloud saves were to be enabled in the game, players wouldn’t have to worry about losing their save file if they lost their Switch. Animal Crossing is the type of game that many players invest hundreds of hours into. The addition of a cloud save functionality would certainly give players some peace of mind.
