The fans of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game has long been waiting for a mobile release of their favourite card game, and the wait is almost over. The game on Android will officially launch for free on March 24th, but you can pre-register now to make sure you are notified when it finally goes live, and receive a new Golem avatar to boot. Additionally, the game will be cross-play compatible between ios and PC, so you don’t have to worry about one community lagging behind.

For those not familiar with the standalone version of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game might know it through the mini-game within the critically-acclaimed Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. The game has been massively changed from its iteration from the Witcher to make it a complex and competitively viable game worthy enough to stand on its own. However, some of the core mechanics have remained, such as the three-round system and winning via the point total of your board.

If you aren’t familiar with Gwent at all but are looking for a different card game to try out, I would highly recommend giving it a shot. It’s doesn’t deal with some of the cliched mechanics like mana costs, attacking an opponent’s life total, and it has its own unique card draw/mulligan system. The game really does feel totally different from the popular staples of the genre like Wizard’s MTG: Arena or Blizzard’s Hearthstone.

The addition of a mobile version makes the game even more approachable and easy to share. The game is free to play with a very generous deck-building system that prevents players from being able to stack their decks with expensive cards, which means the top decks cost relatively the same amount to build as any other decks. It is probably the easiest card game out there to compete as a free-to-play gamer. If you are curious about the latest expansion, click here: Merchants of Ofir
