Upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass Adds More Content
During the recent Pokemon focused Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced an Expansion Pass for Pokemon Sword and Shield that will add new content to the games. Typically, Pokemon titles get mid-gen sequels or refined versions but Pokemon Sword and Shield will getting expansion DLC that adds Pokemon, GYM leaders and loads of new content to the recent generation of Pokemon. The Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch gamers to pre-purchase for $29.99.
The Expansion Pass for Pokemon Sword and Shield will add two new bundles of content to the current generation of Pokemon, The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. Both bundles include new legendary Pokemon, around a total of 200 new Pokemon between both bundles, new areas to explore and a ton of new customization options. Some of the new Pokemon confirmed in the trailer include Slowpoke, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Nidoran and there are also new Gigantamax versions of the Galarian starter Pokemon. Fans of the original generation will delight in the legendary birds making a comeback and fans of Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald will remember the Regis who return in the Expansion Pass as well.
The new locations will apparently be bigger than the current Wild Area and the landscape features sandy beaches, sandy ruins and tropical vegetation. The Isle of Armor releases in June 2020 but gamers will have to wait until Fall 2020 to get their hands on The Crown Tundra. Considering no mid-gen installment has been announced for this generation of Pokemon, it’s likely that the Expansion Pass is replacing that concept on the Nintendo Switch.
Since Pokemon Sword and Shield are selling so well, we expect a lot of Pokemon masters to check out the expansion content as well and we’re excited to collect even more Pokemon across The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. What part of the Expansion Pass are you most excited for? Which new Pokemon coming to Sword and Shield are you looking forward to the most?
