The Pokemon Company have revealed their plans for Pokemon Day 2020 and it clouds the reveal of a brand new mythic Pokemon. The new Pokemon will be added to Pokemon Sword & Shield. It will also appeal in the upcoming Pokemon film Coco which is set to release in July of this year.

There are already several legendary Pokemon in the Sword & Shield games. The two version exclusive Pokemon, Zacian and Zamazenta, who appear on the box art for their respective games, as well as Eternatus who appears in both versions. The recently announced expansion pack promises to bring three more legendaries. There is no official launch date for this mysterious new mythical Pokemon yet.

The original announcement was posted in Japanese on the official website and later translated by The Pokemon fansite Serebii. The announcement also says that a special Max Raid battle will run in Sword & Shield to celebrate February 27. A special event will also be run in Pokemon GO and there will be more info regarding Pokemon Masters.

February 27 is deemed Pokemon Day as it’s the anniversary of the Japanese release of Pokemon Red and Blue back in 1996. The games wouldn’t hit North America until 1998 where they were released as Pokemon Red & Blue. 2020 Marks the 24th anniversary of the Japanese release.
