Writer for Mortal Kombat Movie Has “Big Plans” For Johnny Cage

He Probably Means Johnny Cage, Unless Greg Russo Is Super Religious

Since the announcements that filming has begun for the Mortal Kombat movie, not too many headlines have been made about it. All the characters that have been leaked earlier this year have been cast, but now we have news of another character being added to the movie. According to the movie’s writer Greg Russo, fan favourite Johnny Cage will indeed be in the movie. When the characters had first been leaked, both Johnny Cage and Scorpion were notably absent, but the latter has now been cast. Now, we just need our Johnny Cage.

The tweet comes as a reply to a fan who plainly asked, “Yeah, where’s Johnny?” While Greg Russo had the perfect opportunity to troll him with a gif of Jack Nicholson in The Shining, he instead answered, “Big plans for J.C. Can’t say much more than that.” Unless he’s talking about my main man Jesus Christ (who is also one of Earth’s greatest fighters), this pretty much confirms that Johnny Cage will be in the movie. To that end, he’ll also have big role, apparently.

But who should play Johnny Cage? I would like to throw Chris Evans’ hat in the ring. If he stays as buff as Captain America and mixes in the arrogance and star power of Johnny Storm, we got ourselves a Johnny Cage. Unfortunately, New Line Cinema didn’t hire me for casting though. Mortal Kombat is set to hit theaters on March 5th, 2021.
