More Ray Traced Remasters Are On the Way
Recently, Nvidia remastered Quake 2 with a plethora of graphical upgrades. Fans rejoiced as they could return to the classic shooter and relive their glory days while taking in the fancy new graphics. Remastered games have become quite popular this decade. Gamers who love replaying classic video games with a new look to them should be excited. Nvidia has just announced that they are going to start a remastering program for old games.
This news was discovered thanks to a job listing. It read, “We’re cherry-picking some of the greatest titles from the past decades and bringing them into the ray-tracing age, giving them state-of-the-art visuals while keeping the gameplay that made them great.”
Quake 2 RTX was only available to those who owned that particular graphics card. But it was free. It is not clear whether or not Nvidia will stick to that formula. It also uncertain what games they are going to work on next.
While there has been much praise over some remastered games. There has been a fair share of critics as well. The people who oppose remastering games claim largely that video game companies are simply trying to make a quick buck off long-time fans. Using things like nostalgia to cash in on people’s fond memories of the past.
While some remakes have felt like that. There have been more which were done really well. The Master Chief Collection, for instance, was fantastic. It did not remaster every game, however, the games that it did tune up were outstanding and came with plenty of new features.
That being said, it does not look like Nvidia is planning on adding anything to games that they remaster aside from new graphics.
What do you think about Nvidia’s plans?
