Activision Will Be Using a Modern Warfare Battle Pass System

Well, It’s Not Loot Boxes, I Guess

There has been a lot of speculation and rumors surrounding how Infinity Ward and Activision will be making their money off of Modern Warfare players. They say they are ditching the season pass, which was a strategy that worked for them for a long time. Then rumors surfaced of micro-transactions. Loot boxes were also rumored to be on the table. Apparently, none of that will be happening. According to a blog by Activision, there will be a Modern Warfare Battle Pass system like many games are doing today.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Pass

The blog that was posted today outlined the post-launch content we can expect with Modern Warfare. It specifically says that the season pass and a la carte DLC will be a thing of the past. By going the route of the battle pass, it ensures that all players online will be on equal ground, which is particularly important this time around because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be the first title in the series that will be implementing cross-play.

Because people have been skeptical overt the move away from the traditional season pass, Activision is making it clear what the battle pass is all about. They make a point to say that “All functional content that has an impact on game balance, such as base weapons and attachments, can be unlocked simply by playing the game.” This means that there will be no weapon or gadget exclusive to those who hold a battle pass. Players will also be able to see what they will be unlocking before purchasing the battle pass for transparency purposes. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be out on October 25th on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
