Suspected World of Warcraft DDoS Hacker Gets Arrested

A Suspect Behind World of Warcraft DDoS Attacks Has Been Apprehended

After World of Warcraft got hit with several Distributed Denial of Service attacks earlier this month, Blizzard worked with authorities to find the source of the attacks and, on Friday, a Blizzard community manager provided an update: A suspect has been arrested.

“Immediately after the Distributed Denial of Service attacks against our game service began, the Blizzard Security Team worked around the clock with local and international law enforcement agencies to track down the source of the DDoS,” the community manager explained in a forum post. “It is our understanding that, within a few days, authorities were able to successfully identify and arrest a suspect.”

The suspect hasn’t been publicly identified and charges haven’t been announced. During the DDoS attack itself, a Twitter user named “UkDrillas” claimed responsibility and got their Twitter account banned but it isn’t confirmed if that user is the person who was arrested.
