Modern Warfare Will Outsell All Other Games According to NPD Analyst
NPD releases gaming sales figures monthly, but the company’s lead analyst Mat Piscatella recently gave his thoughts about what games he thinks will sell the best by the time 2019 is over. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare exceeds games like Borderlands 3 and the current NPD leader, Madden 20. Considering Modern Warfare is coming out at the end of the year, Infinity Ward will have to sell a lot of units to catch up to games that are already out, let alone succeed them. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is currently in beta and it officially releases on October 25th on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Apparently nine previous Call of Duty titles have achieved the top seller of the year spot that Mat Piscatella predicts Modern Warfare will retain. Other Call of Duty titles that have outsold their competition in the same year of release are Infinite Warfare, Modern Warfare 2 and 3 and Black Ops 4 to name a few. Mat Piscatella released his own top ten prediction of what games will sell best by the end of 2019 and the list is as followed:
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
2. NBA 2K20
3. Madden NFL 20
4. Borderlands 3
5. Mortal Kombat 11
6. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
7. Ghost Recon Breakpoint
8. Kingdom Hearts III
9. The Division 2
10. Pokemon Sword and Shield
This gives Modern Warfare only two and a half months to catch up and surpass the NPD competition but considering Infinite Warfare outsold Overwatch and Battlefield 1 the year it released, we won’t be surprised if Mat Piscatella is correct. We’re interested in comparing this list to the final list for 2019 to compare what Mat Piscatella got correct and what he was off the mark on. One thing some gamers are skeptical on is Modern Warfare becoming pay-to-win by locking guns behind weapon crates but considering Ghost Recon Breakpoint and The Division 2 are both on the list, Soldiers will have other games to turn to.
