Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Released for Switch

Relive Oliver’s Magical Adventures

Bandai Namco is bringing back the classic JRPG Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the Witch Witch on Switch and is also releasing a remastered version for PS4 and PC. Our review of the Switch version sings the praises of the original game and the new releases.

Released today, players can go back to the world of Oliver and his companion Drippy as they travel to a fantastical land to try and save his mother. Level-5 Studios developed the game and the legendary Studio Ghibli provided animation and storyboards. Rounding out the Ghibli team, award-winning composer Joe Hisaishi scored the game. Initially, on its release, the game was met with critical acclaim and it seems nothing has changed.

The Switch version plays ay 720p and 30 frames when docked in TV mode at home. Those picking up the remastered version for PS4 and PC can look forward to 1080p resolution and a smooth 60fps. PS4 Pro users can also look forward to a beautiful 4K version at 30fps or 1440p at 60fps. Considering how beautiful the animation is, the remastered versions will truly be works of art.

Nothing has changed from the original to the remastered/re-release, but the lack of new content is nothing to worry about. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a standard JRPG so there are hours of content to get through. The main game mechanics mix real-time action and turn-based tactical elements. In addition, there is a Pokemon-esque creature capture system that lets Oliver use familiars in battle.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is available now for Switch, and the remastered versions are available for PS4 and on Steam for PC.
