The Developers Behind The Fallen Order Wanted To Stand Out From The Movies
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has not had the smoothest time pre-release. It has faced numerous criticisms over the past couple of months. Some have disapproved of the appearance of the Wookies, the toning down of the violence in the game, and the design of the lightsabers. There has also been anger directed at the developers for making the main character a man. In an interview, game director Stig Asmussen explains why they chose to make the protagonist a man.
Cal, the main character in Fallen Order, was chosen to be a man due to the fact that Rey the main character in the newest Star Wars movie trilogy is a woman. Asmussen said, “We talked about different gender. We arrived where we were because at the time, Rey was the thing for Star Wars, and so it made a lot more sense for us to have a male protagonist”. They essentially wanted the game to stand out from the movies. And they felt that having a male protagonist could help.
Asmussen also touched on why they didn’t have an alien be the face of the game. “Ultimately we didn’t go with an alien race because we felt like – no pun intended – that would alienate a lot of people. We wanted to make sure there was a real human connection to that character we have in the game”. Asmussen apparently really wanted to have an alien character. He thought it would be “really cool.” if they added an option to play as an alien.
However, the Star Wars universe is going to be on full display in the Fallen Order. You will be brushing shoulders with just about every alien race imaginable.
The Fallen Order drops on November 15th for PS4, PC and Xbox One.
