What Exactly Are We Looking At?
Sometimes, video games or movies attach themselves to a song in a trailer, and people love it. Guardians of the Galaxy did it with Hooked On a Feeling, Thor: Ragnarok with The Immigrant Song, GTA: Vice City with I Ran (So Far Away), the list goes on. So Happy Together by The Turtles has been used in trailers a number of times, almost all of them with some irony. I remember the first time I heard the song was in a commercial for the first Super Smash Bros. game. Now, Gearbox has put out the Borderlands 3 So Happy Together trailer, and again the song is juxtaposed with the shooting, explosions, and violence of Borderlands.
Last week, the Borderlands Twitter account sent out an “invitation” to their Celebration of Togetherness event which took place on Tuesday. While many speculated that this event was going to be announcing crossplay for Borderlands 3, but Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced ahead of time that that was not the case. It ended up being the trailer we have linked below. There is no big reveal or announcement, but the trailer is filled to the brim with guns, roses, bullets, shooting, roses, psychos, roses, roses, and loot. You may also catch a glimpse or two of some roses.
With the motifs of guns and roses, Gearbox should really do an art promo parodying the Appetite for Destruction album. You can have that one for free, Mr. Pitchford. There is a lot to digest in this trailer. It looks like someone found a way to get high on gunpowder or Eridium. Borderlands 3 will be released on September 13th on PC via Epic Games Store, Xbox One, and PS4.
