It Looks like RuneScape If I’m Honest
With the Assassin’s Creed franchise apparently trying to explore every era of history, they set their sights on a Viking setting. The working title for the 2020 game was Assassin’s Creed Kingdom, but has since landed on Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok. You probably should not expect a Led Zeppelin intro though. Anyway, some leaked images of the game have surfaced. It is super not polished or even ready to be seen, plus the image is not a screen capture, so bear with them, I guess. The quality makes it look almost cell-shaded, but it is most assuredly not.
The images are accompanied by some details about the gameplay. According to ResetEra, where the leak was posted, the game’s setting will encompass all of Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway. This might be why the working title was Kingdom, because of all the kingdoms. The story will also involve aspects of Nordic mythology such as finding Mjolnir and a DLC using Yggdrasil to travel between the nine realms. The main character is an ally of Ragnar Lodbrok who forms the Great Heathen Army.
The gameplay elements that return include the RPG mechanics, the eagle, and ship combat. The ship combat is toned down to allow for more exploration, which is emphasized further for this game. For instance, it is reported that certain map markers are removed from the map. It may sound like there is just no direction, but it also kind of sounds like Breath of the Wild. It may very well be all fake, but the screenshots are hard to ignore.
