The Newest Mortal Kombat Game Was the Best Selling Game of the Month
Mortal Kombat has come into the scene swinging. The over the top arcade style fighter has done very well for itself since its release in late April. NPD has reported that Mortal Kombat 11 has been the highest selling video game on all platforms that it launched on. As of right now, it is the second best selling game of the year trailing Kingdom Hearts III. The success of Mortal Kombat has not come at the expense of other titles. Many other games performed strongly as well.
Days Gone finished in second place in April followed by MLB 19: The Show and Tom Clancy’s The Divison 2. Days Gone is already Sony Bend Studio’s most successful game ever, marking a huge achievement for their company.
The Nintendo Switch is doing quite well for itself too. It has managed to stay on top of the competition as of late. In April, the Nintendo Switch led the industry once again. The Switch has been able to stay the leader of hardware sales all year, in both total units sold as well as revenue generated.
It is important to note that hardware sales for April 2019 are in fact down 29% when compared to sales in April 2018. This is part of a wider trend as hardware sales are down 16% in total from last year. This is believed to be in connection with the fact that both the PS4 and Xbox One are both starting to show their age. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are both more than five years old. It is only a matter of time before Sony and Microsoft unveil their replacements.
