Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Is the Title of the Next CoD Game

There Was No Good Name for This Game

Hey, everybody. Welcome back to 2009. So, apparently Call of Duty 2019’s alleged title is giving people a “Lol wut?” reaction. What was thought to be Modern Warfare 4 is supposedly going to be called simply Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. There was no easy solution to naming this game. It was either going to be this or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which also too close to 2009’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I am guessing 50% of this news piece is going to be comprised of the same five words, for obvious reasons.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

This naming is really similar to how Microsoft named its current console the Xbox One. Since then we could not call the original Xbox the Xbox one. Now we can’t refer to Call of Duty 4 as Modern Warfare. This is really going to mess with CoD search results. Kotaku first broke this news. It was leaked by pretty much everyone that Infinity Ward was going to be making another Modern Warfare game. Now, we’re getting hit with this name, implying a soft reboot. Of course, Activision has not officially announced the title, so maybe they will reconsider naming it something with a little more… je ne sais quoi.

But what’s in a name? With other news like Infinity Ward’s focus on storytelling, there might be more to Modern Warfare (2019) than just a stale name. I mean, people are going to throw heaps of money at Activision anyway. Why waste production resources on a new name when you can just scratch out the 4 from their 2009 game art? The unofficially name Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released this Fall.
