Go Legit Or Get Gone, I Guess
People really love to cheat in Apex Legends. They love it so much that Respawn Entertainment has seen 770,000 cheaters banned from the game as of the latest update. Thanks to these efforts, cheating has seen an overall 50% drop since the game first came out.
To be more specific, there have been 770k players banned for cheating, 300k account creations have been blocked, and over 4000 spammers have been banned. Rampant cheating is a serious problem in any online shooter big enough, but this still seems like an awful lot. At least Respawn has been doing a bang-up job at catching them all!
All of this was addressed in a dev update from Jay Freshette. He didn’t go into too many details (for security reasons), but he was adamant that they take “cheating in Apex incredibly serious and have a large amount of resources tackling it from a variety of angles.” Said resources include EA Security and Fraud, the Origin teams, the developers at DICE, FIFA, and Capital Games, and Easy-Anti-Cheat. It seems that peoples’ dedication to cheating in Apex Legends is matched only by their passion for stopping cheaters. Expect that total number to tip over a million rather soon.
