Red Faction Guerrilla Switch Version Is Coming out This Summer

The Switch Seems to Collect Games from All Sorts of Eras

Hey, remember Red Faction? The series is coming up on its 18th birthday next month. Last Summer, the series third game Red Faction Guerrilla saw a remaster called Re-Mars-tered because… Mars. One year later, almost to the day, we will see a Red Faction Guerrilla Switch version coming out. This will contain all the features from the remastered release of Red Faction Guerrilla. Out of the four Red Faction games, Guerrilla scored highest and most consistently, but we shall see if it stands the test of time or collapses under the weight of nostalgic expectations.

Red Faction Guerrilla Switch

The news of the Switch release comes via THQ Nordic’s Twitter account. They tweeted a new trailer as well as the release date July 2nd, 2019. The game will apparently feature a choice between performance and quality. This is an unsettling feature considering that the game is ten years old. Should a game that old force players to choose between looking good and running smoothly?

There’s something about the Nintendo Switch and picking up 5+ year old games for re-release. Skyrim, Saints Row: The Third, Diablo III, Final Fantasy VII, X, XII, and now Red Faction Guerrilla. Nintendo has always had nostalgia on their side when it comes to game sales. Re-releasing older games on current consoles is an old trick of theirs. With a lot of these games making their debut on a Nintendo console, will these titles attract Nintendo’s demographic that keeps coming back for re-releases? We will see if Red Faction Guerrilla does just that. Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered comes out on the Switch on July 2nd.
