Both Sides Have Decided to No Longer Pursue Legal Action Over RDR2’s Use of Pinkertons
Take-Two Interactive and the Pinkerton Consulting & Investigation company have both recently decided to no longer take legal action against each other in a legal fight that started last December over the use of Pinkertons in Red Dead Redemption 2.
“Take-Two can confirm that the present day Pinkerton Consulting & Investigation company has withdrawn its claims against Red Dead Redemption 2, and Take-Two will not continue legal action against Pinkerton,” a Take-Two statement to GamesIndustry.biz read. “Red Dead Redemption 2 is a work of fiction set in the late 1800s that references historical entities active during that time.”
According to an official court document, the dismissal was filed on Thursday.
In December 2018, the Pinkerton Consulting & Investigation company filed a cease & desist complaint against Take-Two Interactive that alleged that the use of the Pinkertons in Red Dead Redemption 2 was copyright infringement. In response, Take-Two and Rockstar Games sued the company in January in order to get the Pinkerton characters in the game declared as fair-use.
