Expect 10 DLC Fighters Down the Line
For the first time in a very long time, NetherRealm is bringing a new iteration of Mortal Kombat to a Nintendo console. Since the Nintendo Switch performs at a different level, compared to other platforms, however, it begs the question of performance. But according to Creative Director Ed Boon, the portable console will still run the fighting game at 60 FPS.
NetherRealm have mastered every facet of their fighting game franchise. They’ve got the genre down to an art form with Mortal Kombat 11. Still, I think no one would blame them if they brought a 30 FPS downgrade to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. In an interview with GameInformer, Boon said no.
Mortal Kombat 11 on the Nintendo Switch will run at lower geometry, but it will maintain that 60 FPS sweet spot. Further, Boon promised that the experience will look and run fantastically on every platform. All those stellar animations, macabre levels, and awe-inspiring sound pieces will play smoothly even on the go. “It’s looking great,” said Boon.
Boon also revealed that Mortal Kombat 11 will contain 25 characters at launch. Afterward, we can expect a total of 10 DLC in incremental packs. NetherRealm, it seems, will maintain the typical roadmap we’ve seen with Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2.
Another tidbit of info, Mortal Kombat X has apparently sold 11 million copies, a whopping amount of copies for a fighting game. Perhaps the sequel will top that reception in the market,
Mortal Kombat 11 arrives for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 23, 2019. A recent character reveal came in the form of Cetrion the Elder God. Check back for more details and roster updates on the road to launch.
Happy gaming.
