It’s Enough To Make You Drop Your Monocle
An unearthed report confirms that Rage 2, the upcoming Mad Max homage from Id Software and Avalanche, will run at a mere 1080p on the Xbox One X. Sure, it will also run at 60 fps, but 1080p? Isn’t the whole point of the X1X to showcase those sexcellent graphics?
Tim Willits, Id’s Studio Director, recently opened up about the game with Hardcore Gamer. Apparently the more important thing is to have those framerates locked in. The regular consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) will be locked at 30 fps, while the enhanced consoles will be set to 60 fps. Meanwhile the PC version is pretty much the wild west.
This is just one of the many examples of ‘smooth versus shiny’ that we see with AAA gaming. Yes, graphics are a big deal. But nothing sours a game faster than a stuttering, janky framerate. Graphics might have the edge in theory, but performance is what people tend to remember and also gripe about. Rage 2 is coming on May 14th for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
