New Overwatch Character May be Teased in Blizzard Blog

There are Clues, but What do they Mean?

After almost three years since Overwatch’s release, the mega-hit game has accumulated a total of twenty-nine characters to play as. Launching with twenty-one characters in 2016, the subsequent years have averaged about three new characters per year; two in 2016 and three in both 2017 and 2018. With 2019’s third month closing in, we are expecting a new Overwatch character anytime now. Yesterday, Blizzard released a fictional log written by one Captain D. Cuerva. It is obviously a tease for a new character, but which one remains a question. We can only speculate at this point.

New Overwatch Character

The post is called “Subject: Cuerva Strike Team – Log Recovered” and it details the hunt by a Talon Strike team for someone named Jean-Baptiste Augustin. The strike team’s mission was to find and retrieve or eliminate Baptiste. The report says that Baptiste is a deserter, once part of the Talon Strike team. Cuerva says that they failed their first attempt losing many members of the team. Describing Baptiste, Cuerva says “I know better than to underestimate Baptiste. I helped train him myself, and he was one of our best. I’ve never known a medic to be such a good shot, and his adaptability to new situations is a rare talent. All of us have seen our fair share of conflict, but Baptiste was built to survive. I swear he has the Devil’s own luck.”

Jean-Baptiste Augustin sounds like a badass, but is he the new character? Or could it actually be Captain Cuerva? It’s sure to clear up soon, but right now we cannot say for sure. The description of Baptiste clearly lays him out as a support character and mentions nothing of Cuerva’s abilities. This points to Baptiste being a safe guess for the new character. Maybe at some point we will see both of them entering the fray.
