Even in 2019, God of War Keeps Winning Awards
God of War beat out several games to win the award for Videogame Writing at the 2019 Writers Guild Awards on Sunday. Just last week, the critically-acclaimed action game also won several awards at the 2019 DICE Awards.
The other nominees in the category were Batman: The Enemy Within, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and Marvel’s Spider-Man.
While its combat gameplay has been praised by many gaming media outlets, God of War’s narrative has also been applauded for being a well-written and memorable tale.
“It’s a long, slow burn, ramping up gradually and focused much of the time on Kratos and Atreus’ relationship, but its impeccable voice acting and cinematic art design are worthy of the best Hollywood blockbusters,” our reviewer wrote when assessing the game’s story.
Notably, God of War has a chance next month to win some more awards at this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards, which are scheduled for March 20th. It’s been nominated for Game of the Year and several other categories alongside Red Dead Redemption 2.
