Two of the Biggest Games of 2018 Go Head-to-Head Yet Again
God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 were announced on Friday as nominees for Game of the Year at 2019’s Game Developers Choice Awards. The other nominees for the award are Celeste, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Return of the Obra Dinn.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for March 20, 2019 at 9:30 PM EST/6:30 PM PT.
Red Dead Redemption 2 leads all the nominated games with seven nominations for not only Game of the Year but also the Innovation Award, Best Audio, Best Narrative, Best Design, Best Visual Art, and Best Technology.
God of War has nominations for Best Narrative, Best Audio, Best Technology, Best Design, and Best Visual Art along with Game of the Year.
Unfortunately, only five 2018 games could be picked for the Game of the Year so here are the GDCA’s honorable mentions for that award:
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Monster Hunter: World
- Tetris Effect
- Florence
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Into the Breach
Notably, the GDCA are going to be “held in conjunction” with the 2019 Independent Games Festival Awards. Return of the Obra Dinn was nominated in five out of the seven categories for that awards ceremony.
