Blacklisted Anthem Reviewer’s Story Under Fire

Doesn’t Sound All That Blacklisted, For Starters

Yesterday it came out that someone’s Anthem review was pulled by EA for being too critical. The reviewer, Gggmanlives, claimed that EA blacklisted him after making him take the video down. It’s a cool story, but there’s some evidence it might not be true.

For starters, EA explicitly stated that the video was removed for violating disclosure guidelines. After he fixed it, they even let him re-upload the video! All it was missing was a proper watermark! Gggmanlives is part of a program called Game Changers. EA gets people codes in exchange for coverage. It doesn’t have to be positive coverage, either. In fact, they cover this in the Game Changers FAQ.

Look, I’ll be the first to tell you that EA can be sort of evil sometimes. Not as bad as Activision, but who is really? We here at COGconnected are pretty mean to them and our team still gets to cover their games. So it wouldn’t make sense for them to pull a negative review while letting the rest of the games journalism industry be so… honest. Speaking of honest, you can check out our full review of Anthem right here.
