Price of Admission is Gold
While a free-to-play Gears of War 4 would be, as the hip kids say, the bee’s knees, the freedom is only available for a limited time. This weekend, Xbox fans who haven’t played the game for whatever reason can have a go.
Starting on January 31st, Xbox Gold subscribers can take part in Gears of War 4‘s free-to-play weekend. That’s the only caveat, being an Xbox Gold subscriber. So, if you haven’t taken advantage of one of the many subscription discounts advertised on this site, you may have to pay full price. A subscription also nets Deals with Gold and Games with Gold advantages. You’ll have until February 3rd, 12:00 AM PT to get that subscription and enjoy the free game.
Who knows, if timed just right, players may complete the campaign before the free-to-play weekend is over. Alongside the single-player portion, Gold subscribers can take advantage of multiplayer Horde, Versus, and Escalation modes.
