The Date Remains Unconfirmed
A recent Microsoft listing fueled the rumor that Dead Or Alive 6 would be free-to-play. Normally, you have to wait a while before the official word, but the rumor has since been confirmed.
Game director Yohei Shimbori confirmed in an interview with Siliconera that Dead Or Alive 6 would eventually be free to play and that the listing was a mistake. As of yet, Team Ninja hasn’t hashed out the details of their alternative version. Just as well, they haven’t decided when it will be available. When it does arrive, we can probably expect content in the vein of Dead or Alive 5: Core Fighters.
“First of all, about the listing on the Microsoft Store, that was a mistake from the development team. We do have plans to make a free-to-play version, but we haven’t announced when it will be available. We can promise it will be out post-launch of the full game. We can’t talk about it yet since we don’t have concrete details about what will be included yet. But, it will be similar to what we had with Dead Or Alive 5: Core Fighters.”
With Core Fighters, Dead Or Alive 5 gave access to four characters. The retail version of Dead Or Alive 6 will include a roster of 23 characters—25 if we include pre-order bonuses. Once the free-to-play version arrives it may contain packaged fighters, microtransactions, and/or the option to upgrade to the retail version. Who knows, this post-launch version may actually entice more newcomers to the series.
Dead Or Alive 6 will arrive on March 1, 2018, following a delay. Find it for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
