Bethesda Moves in on Fallout 76 Cheaters: Justice will be Swift and Painful

Hide the Dupes! The Bethesda Cops are Coming!

On the first day, Bethesda made Fallout 76. On the second day, they created the bugs. And on day the third, Bethesda created players, but some were corrupted and began cheating. These cheaters angered Bethesda. Now their day of reckoning has come. Bethesda has promised to smite the Fallout 76 cheaters. Recently, the leading examples of cheating in Fallout 76 have been the Dev Room and the Dupers. The Dev Room is an area that houses every item in the game, and some that are not in the game. The Dupers are individuals who have used exploits to duplicate items, specifically powerful weapons and items.

Today’s Inside the Vault announcement from Bethesda covered various implementations in Fallout 76’s most recent patch. In one of the messages, they responded to the exploits players have been experiencing, namely the two linked above. Bethesda says they are doing their best to keep up with these bugs and squash them as quickly as they can. Their support team will “remove problem players that are abusing these exploits”, which is PR-speak for “hunting”. They are also updating certain weapon mods, specifically the Two Shot Legendary and Explosive Legendary mods. The Two Shot mod allows a firearm to fire twice as many rounds than normal, effectively doubling damage. The nerf applied to this mod decreased the damage from +100% to +25%. The Explosive mod gives firearms explosive rounds, adding small explosion damage to every shot. The nerf for this mod reduces the blast radius damage from +100% to +20%. These mods were widely used in conjunction with the duplicating exploit.

Fallout 76 also has a new PVP mode on the horizon. This mode will be separate from the regular game as a new option in the main menu. Bethesda says “think it of it like playing the game you’re playing right now, but with no PvP rules. We want to introduce significantly more tension, drama, and consequences with every encounter with another human player.”
