Voice Actor Norman Reedus Shares Some New Details About Death Stranding
Many details about Hideo Kojima’s upcoming game are still unknown, including a release window. In a recent interview Norman Reedus talked all things Death Stranding, sharing a few interesting details and it seems the voice actor for the game’s protagonist might have an idea of when this PS4 exclusive is set to drop.
Speaking to Dan Folger during a podcast Reedus revealed that he believes Death Stranding is coming sooner than some might think. “I think it’s gonna be early this coming year, I have three more [mocap] sessions here in New York starting next week.” Though he still has a bit of motion capture work to do, Troy Baker, another voice actor for the game revealed last month that he had completely wrapped on his work for the title. If there’s very little capture left to do, Norman Reedus’ idea of when Death Stranding will drop could be pretty plausible after all. With that said of course, without confirmation from Kojima himself, we’ll just have to wait and see.
If you’ve been keeping up with Death Stranding announcements since its big reveal at E3 2016 you’ll know that details about the game have been pretty scarce and with every new trailer the storyline seems just as mysterious as it was in the beginning. Thankfully in his interview with Dan Folger Reedus provided a bit more insight into the game. “It’s not the kinda game where you kill everybody in the room. It’s a game of bringing people together. How you play it, is you’re building bridges from here to there, and other people are doing the same, and you connect, and the character that I play is, he’s got this phobia of being touched, and as you play the game the phobia leaves you. It’s complicated but once you’re in it, it doesn’t seem as complicated. It’s constantly surprising you with decisions left and right, and what comes at you, and it’s a real brave game. It’s visually stunning, and the story behind it, it’s a whole ‘nother level, y’know. It’s not Pac-Man, it’s not simple, but the philosophy behind it is one that everybody can get.”
Lastly, Reedus gave a major nod to Kojima himself, confirming what many have long though: he’s a genius. “I’ve never done the kind that I’m doing on this, this is a whole ‘nother level, and I’ve been in a lot of video games, but nothing like this.” Norman Reedus explains how he was originally going to work on another project with Guillermo Del Toro and Hideo Kojima before it fell apart when Kojima and Konami broke up in Japan. Following Sony picking Kojima up, Del Toro approached him again. “So we started this other one, Guillermo is like, ‘You should do this.’ I was like, ‘What is it?’ And he was like, ‘You should do this.’ Then I met Hideo, he took me to the Video Game Music Awards, right. And he comes walking down the steps, and the steps are lighting up underneath him, y’know, he’s like ‘I’m back!’ And then 10,000 grown men, with tears in their eyes, are screaming like Elvis just walked in, and I’m like, ‘Who the fuck is this guy?’ He’s like a genius, and then you talk to him and you’re like, ‘Oh, you are a genius.’”
Though Death Stranding has long thought to be set for release in 2020, it will be interesting to see if Kojima has a surprise announcement up his sleeve that will confirm Norman Reedus’ suspicions. Fingers crossed the PS4 exclusive will be released next year. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to keep it locked for updates!
