Rumour: YouTube is Coming to the Switch on Thursday

YouTube App Leaked by the Nintendo of America Website

An apparent leak is making the rounds that reveal that the Nintendo Switch will finally get a YouTube app on Thursday, November 8th.

The leak came from French website NintendHome who discovered a Switch YouTube app teaser while browsing the Nintendo of America website. They posted a screenshot of the app teaser in a tweet that can be seen below.

When translated from French to English using Google Translate, the tweet reads “Rumor – The YouTube app should arrive soon on Nintendo Switch, more precisely on November 8, according to the Nintendo America website.” The actual image shows a “Coming: Nov 08, 2018” as well.

The fact that the leak came from Nintendo’s official website makes this more legitimate. This also isn’t the first time Nintendo’s own website has leaked information early either. Back in September, the American Nintendo site outed the name of the next Yoshi game, Yoshi’s Crafted World, before it was revealed later in a Nintendo Direct.

YouTube has been released on Nintendo systems before in the past including the 3DS, Wii U, and Wii. The Switch, however, has been a different story especially when it comes to apps that aren’t games. Even after a year and a half on shelves, the Switch currently only has two video-streaming apps available for download from the eShop: Hulu in the US and Niconico in Japan. If this rumour is accurate, then YouTube will be the third non-gaming app released on the system.
