Riot Games Made KPop Group to Sell League of Legends Skins

The Video Is Truly Something

I’m all for a good publicity stunt, especially when it looks and sounds incredibly cool. To that end, Riot Games debuted a music video from a KPop group of their creation this weekend. The whole thing is an elaborate ad for a new set of skins going on sale, and I love every second of it.

Riot Games KPop Group

The video, “Pop/Stars,” debuted at a championship in South Korea. The group is Korean and American musicians. There’s Miyeon and Soyeon of (G)I-dle, Madison Beer and Jaira Burns. They play the roles of Ahri, Akali, Evelynn and Kai’Sa, respectively. My League knowledge is rudimentary at best, but I know that these are some famous faces within the game.

In the two days since it was released on YouTube, Pop/Stars has racked up over 13 million views. You’ve probably seen stills from said video all over your social media feed. In other words, consider this a fairly successful marketing campaign. I wouldn’t be surprised if K/DA ended up releasing another single in the near future. Actually, I would be totally on board for other game companies to use this strategy. How awesome would it be to see Nintendo or Capcom or Sega drop a glitzed-up single as a marketing ploy? You can check out Pop/Stars below.
