Red Dead Online Economy Has Been Met with Heavy Fan Criticism

Red Dead Online Economy a Bit Wonky, Receives Backlash from Fans

Red Dead Redemption 2’s online beta kicked off just a few short days ago and up until now it’s been pretty well received. Now however, Rockstar is facing backlash from fans over the game’s economy. According to fans this Red Dead Online economy, featuring two in-game currencies, is frustrating not only to earn but to use as well.

Though players might’ve thought exploring the Wild West would be a ton of fun online, those who jumped into Red Dead Online’s beta have quickly found out that missions and multiplayer modes pay out minimal amounts of in-game currency, making it seem like a real grind. The two in-game currencies are regular cash and premium Gold Bar currency though as it stands right now, both are quite difficult to earn.

And that’s not the only issue with the current currency system for Red Dead Online. Overall it’s hard to deny it’s a bit weird when a gold ring will earn you $1.10 when sold, however a can of beans costs $1.20 to $1.50 to buy. As such, it has made it difficult for players to earn enough in-game currency to even buy some basic survival supplies. Additionally, prices of items aren’t the same from the single player to the multiplayer aspect of the game, further creating problems for everyone. A pistol that would only cost $250 in single player has more than tripled in price online, setting you back a ridiculous $1000.

Fans have taken to Reddit to try to devise easier and faster ways to earn money, but even with this, earning money is still a pretty big grind, and players are expressing their annoyance. Those geniuses on Reddit have calculated that it would take almost 8 hours of playtime to earn a single premium Gold Bar. These are used not only to purchase a variety of cosmetic items, but also to unlock features before reaching the required level, such as camp fast travel (unlocked at level 65). Instead of waiting until level 65, it will set you back 112 Gold bars, which will take approximately 900 long hours to earn.

It’s definitely worth mentioning that Red Dead Online is still in beta form, and as such it should be expected that Rockstar will have some bugs to work out along the way. Who knows, maybe they’ll even replace the current system with something similar to that of GTA Online. So far Rockstar has yet to comment on the criticism about their online currency.
