Skybound CEO Wants All Telltale Staff to be Back for The Walking Dead Finale

Aiming to Have Episode 3 Released This Year

With the recent news that Skybound Games will be taking over development and publishing of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, a recent Reddit AMA has shed some light on the future of the game and whether the original Telltale team will be back to finish what they started.

Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season
Telltale is gearing up to release the final season of The Walking Dead this coming August.

Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe and former creative director at Telltale Kent Mudle held the AMA yesterday where pertinent information of the development of the remaining episodes was revealed. While they’re hopeful that the original team will be back, they also confirmed that the scripts for episodes 3 and 4 will not be scrapped and that the original vision is still in place.

“Regarding the story, the process of developing the narrative isn’t changing, there is a long-standing collaboration between the writers and Skybound over story approval and all the same people will still be involved,” Howe explained.

More importantly, Howe is determined to have all former Telltale staff come back to work on the project. “The plan is for it to be staffed 100% by former Telltale staff,” he wrote. “The only time we’d look elsewhere is if we can’t fill a particular role from former Telltale people.”

Since they’re in the process of transitioning Telltale staff to Skybound, a Reddit user asked if players should expect a “slight delay” on the final two episodes.

“I would guess this is everyone’s number one question – What I can say is that the team is not currently working on the game and until we’re back into production, it’s going to be nearly impossible to give an accurate answer,” Howe said. “What I can say is that we will announce new dates as soon as we know what they are, there is no reason for us to hold that information back, so it will be public immediately that we can talk about it with confidence.”

When asked if the third episode would still release in 2018, Howe had this to say:

“I’m going out on a limb and will say yes, I fully expect Episode 3 to be this year and I’ll be very disappointed if we can’t make that happen.”

The entire thread is worth reading as it dives further into Skybound’s plans for the Telltale team and how a standard episode is developed.
