Rockstar Tramples Records Again
The results are in, and the proof is all over Rockstar’s ledgers. Red Dead Redemption 2 has earned the biggest opening weekend of any entertainment product. At physical retail, the game has earned more cash in its first three days than any product aside from its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V.
For anyone confused, Grand Theft Auto V didn’t earn the highest-grossing weekend in entertainment since it didn’t release on a weekend date. As of today, Red Dead Redemption 2 can boast financial achievement and critical acclaim over its competitors. When the embargo dropped last week, the game came with a trophy rack of perfect review scores, which might have bolstered its sales numbers a bit. Early indications of its success also came when it topped the UK Sales charts. However, the earliest indicator of its success came directly from the PlayStation Network, where it became the most pre-ordered game of this generation.
Here is the list of Red Dead Redemption 2’s achievements:
- Biggest opening weekend in retail sell-through across all entertainment releases;
- Second biggest launch (three days) in retail sell-through across all entertainment releases;
- Biggest entertainment launch of 2018;
- Most pre-ordered full game ever on PlayStation Network;
- Biggest day one full game sales ever on PlayStation Network;
- Biggest first three days full game sales ever on PlayStation Network.
Rockstar Entertainment had already blazed a reputation for top-quality games, which made their western title the most anticipated game of 2018. That said, it has plenty of room to grow. Players who own a copy of Red Dead Redemption II can look forward to the beta for Red Dead Online later this year. Stay tuned for updates on the road to online accessibility and more as time goes by.
