Behold the “Preview to Madness”
Since the announcement last year, Lovecraftian horror fans have waited with baited breath for the arrival of Call of Cthulhu. Those fans will be happy to note that the game has officially gone gold.
“Call of Cthulhu has gone gold!” the publisher wrote on Twitter. “Get a taste of the press’ first impressions, joined by a dose of Lovecraftian madness in our latest trailer.” With the last milestone achieved, fans of the lore and the genre can look forward to a polished game on the release date. Yes, developer Cyanide Studio had to delay the game at least once, but that’s the cost of a quality title. Very few games get the opportunity to realize Lovecraft’s world, but this one looks riddled with good scares.
We can only assume it’s more than a frightful walking simulator, at this point. Expect COGconnected’s review in due course. As an FYI, pre-orders are now live. While we late for the latest bout of horror, you can check out the latest footage for Call of Cthulhu (available below) and decide for yourself whether a detective tale in the Lovecraftian universe entices your madness.
“Call of Cthulhu, the official video game inspired by Chaosium’s classic pen and paper RPG, brings you deep into a world of creeping madness and shrouded Old Gods within Lovecraft’s iconic universe. 1924. Private Investigator Pierce is sent to look into the tragic death of the Hawkins family on the isolated Darkwater Island. Soon enough, Pierce is pulled into a terrifying world of conspiracies, cultists, and cosmic horrors. Nothing is as it seems. Sanity is an irregular bedfellow, all too often replaced by whisperings in the dark. Strange creatures, weird science, and sinister cults dominate the Cthulhu Mythos, intent on realizing their mad schemes to bring about the end of everything. Your mind will suffer – between sanity and psychosis, your senses will be disrupted until you question the reality of everything around you. Trust no one. Slinking shadows hide lurking figures… and all the while, the Great Dreamer prepares for his awakening.”
