Gum-Gum Exposition!
Bandai Namco has released a new trailer prior to the Tokyo Game Show for the recently delayed One Piece: World Seeker, referred to as “the most ambitious One Piece game ever.”
World Seeker takes place on Jewel Island, where a war over the island’s resources was once waged, but now that the island has been rebuilt, its inhabitants are divided between those who are “Pro-Navy,” accepting of the new regime in place and “Anti-Navy,” who prefer more the island’s more traditional ways. In the center of the island is an enormous prison called – you guessed it – Prison island.
The trailer introduces the Anti-Navy leader Jeanne, who forms a strong bond with Luffy over the course of the game as they take on Prison Island’s evil warden Isaac, both of whom are new characters designed by series creator Eiichiro Oda. The rest of the Straw Hats are present as well, though it remains to be seen how much they’ll be in the game itself.
Though mostly cinematic, the trailer does give us a brief glimpse of Luffy Gum-Gum swinging through an inner city like Spider-Man, and environmental design reminiscent of Gravity Rush’s densely packed flying cities. One Piece: World Seeker launches sometime in 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
