Yakuza Dev Teases New IP

This IP Announcement ‘Will Turn Things Upside Down’, the Developer Said

During a recent SEGA stream, Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi said that a new, unannounced IP that’s been in development for several years will be revealed within the next month.

Yakuza Kiwami 2

Nagoshi reportedly said that this new game will be “something truly different.” “It’s a new title announcement that will turn things upside down,” Nagoshi also said.

It is expected that this big announcement will be made either at a Sony press conference on September 10th or at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show (which lasts from September 20th to September 23rd).

What this new game could be is anyone’s guess. The Yakuza team has made a non-Yakuza game before which was Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise (which launched in Japan in March and releases worldwide on October 2, 2018) but that game was based on an anime series.

Whatever this new game might be, here’s hoping it’s as good as Yakuza Kiwami 2, which is a remake of the second game in the series. We recently reviewed that game and were pretty positive about it overall. “If you have a Yen for more classic Yakuza fighting action, Kiryu’s latest saga has all the right moves,” our reviewer wrote.
