Voldo Returns in Soul Calibur VI, Still Makes Things Uncomfortably Weird

Voldo and His Signature Fighting Style is Back in Soul Calibur VI

Bandai Namco has confirmed the return of Voldo in Soul Calibur VI, the upcoming next entry in the long-running fighting game series. His reveal was confirmed through a new trailer which you can check out below.

Anyone who’s played a Soul Calibur game before will probably remember Voldo. His character is known for his unusual and unpredictable fighting style which involves contorting his body in strange and uncomfortable ways. His signature weapons are the Manus and Ayas, long deadly blades on his hands that make his slashes all the more deadly. His appearance in Soul Calibur VI has been kicked up a notch as well, now having spikes on his eyes and some strange face mask on the back of his head.

Here’s what Bandai Namco says about Voldo’s return:

“Fan-favourite Voldo returns to the stage of history in SOULCALIBUR VI with his signature style and maniacal moves. Voldo is a long-time character in the SOULCALIBUR franchise, being one of only five characters to show up in every main instalment of the SOULCALIBUR series. Voldo was the right-hand man to Vercci, an arms dealer with the nickname “Merchant of Death”, and was tasked to protect the Money Pit, where all of Vercci’s treasures were kept after his death. After spending years in the dark depths of the Money Pit, Voldo lost his eyesight but gained a heightened sense of hearing and awareness, making him extremely deadly to those who dared to enter the Money Pit in search of riches. Voldo’s fighting style is unmatched, as he contorts his body in unnatural ways and can even attack backwards, making him unpredictable and deadly in battle. Both longtime fans and new players will enjoy the exotic gameplay that accompanies this distinctive character in SOULCALIBUR VI.”

Soul Calibur VI Voldo

While he certainly has his die-hard fans, Voldo, personally, wasn’t a favourite character of mine. I found his fighting style to be too loose for my liking and fighting against him was always a stressful affair.

Other characters have been announced like Taki (who skipped Soul Calibur V) and Geralt from The Witcher series as a guest fighter. Soul Calibur VI is due out on October 19th for PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.
