Nintendo Switch Is Getting Nostalgia-Inducing GameCube Style Controllers for Super Smash Bros.

Nintendo Switch Celebrates Super Smash Bros. with a New GameCube Style Controller

Back in June there was a rumor floating around that some GameCube style controllers would be making their way to the Nintendo Switch and now it’s been confirmed. Performance Designed Products LLC, or PDP for short, has announced they have designed GameCube style controllers in celebration of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

That’s right, Nintendo is combining their new age Switch technology with their old age GameCube controllers and it’s going to be a crazy time to be alive when they arrive. PDP has designed not one, not two, but three different controller that pay their respects to three massive characters in the history of Super Smash Bros. These three designs are Pikachu, Link, and Mario. Each of the three designs will be in a color associated with their character, as well as a center badge that reflects each character’s theme.

In addition to the different styles of these wired controllers, the C-stick will be swappable, allowing players to use the original C-stick shape of the original GameCube controllers or the updates full size twin-analog stick control scheme. PDP has explained that the controller has a 10-foot USB cable wire that “ensures you stay connected during crucial moments and … gives you plenty of room to get comfortable.” Though no release date was mentioned for these controllers, it’s likely they will launch around the same time as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is set to drop on December 7th.
