Battlefield V Officially Revealed, Releasing October 19th

Battlefield V Goes Back to WW2

EA and Dice officially pulled the curtain back on Battlefield V today! It’ll launch this October 19th on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

The reveal trailer itself is an absolutely beautifully grotesque, fluid, single-shot cinematic that flows directly into gameplay. It’s as emotional as it is exciting, and features everyone’s favorite “shushing man” from this weeks teaser.

As speculated by fans, the game will be set during World War 2 and seems to be focusing on more personal, grounded stories as opposed to the famous battles of Normandy, Berlin, and Dunkirk that we’ve played through in past WW2 games. Battlefield V also comes with a few new modes, including Combined Arms, where you and 3 friends assume the role of paratroopers completing objectives behind enemy lines, and is being regarded as an introductory training mode for newbies. There was also a lot of speculation of DICE implementing a Battle Royale mode, as its main competitor announced just last week. Instead, the developer is opting for something called Grand Operations. The new mode will include 64 player battles inspired by real-life historical events, and take place across multiple game modes and maps over the course of four in-game days, where each day’s event has a real effect on the next. Day 4 is the “final stand,” which is the closest to a Battle Royale mode you’re going to get with this game, as each player has one life and one primary weapon with limited ammunition. Grand Operations will also introduce time-limited events with unique rewards for players.

Speaking of time-limited, another big, fancy new mode coming to Battlefield is Tides of War, an ongoing online campaign mode where players assemble their own unit of soldiers a la Metal Gear Solid V‘s Diamond Dogs. Gameplay and Narrative progress and evolve as you play, and reward players with loot to customize their beloved infantry with.

But most excitingly, Battlefield V will not include a Premium pass, instead making all of its post-release content free for players. I don’t need to tell you that the Star Wars Battlefront 2 controversy is to thank for this. Battlefield V will also come with a Deluxe edition, which lets players jump into battle on October 16th, and if you’re an EA Access member, that door opens up for you on October 11th.

What do you think? Are you excited for Battlefield V? Let us know in the comments! I’m personally very excited to try out the new Tides of War and Grand Operations modes, they sound very different from anything I’ve seen in a big name multiplayer shooter like Battlefield or Call of Duty.
