Won’t Someone Please Think Of The Children?
Childhood fears are the sort of thing that grip you tight for a few years and then mostly vanish, unless some monster makes a video game out of them. In unrelated news, PLAYMIND is making The InnerFriend, a game about confronting traumatic childhood fears this fall!
You play a psychologist maybe, diving into the subconscious of someone named Shadow in order to rebuild a safe haven out of the fragments of their deepest childhood fears. You know, silly things like hospitals and the fear of abandonment. It should be noted that one of the lead designers of this game, Sabrina Calvo, is an award-winning author and child educator. In other words, she knows a thing or two about what scares kids the most. Fun!
The game will be showcased at PAX East, giving attendees a chance to experience this all firsthand. The visual language at work is heavily based on the works of Carl Jung, as well as Stanley Kubrick. In other words, expect to dive deep into the scary and the surreal with this one. The trailer is embedded below, if you’d like to see for yourself what you’re in for this fall.
