Though It’s Currently Unknown Which Game It’ll Be
In an interview with Digital Foundry, a Eurogamer video team that analyses the framerates and other technical aspects of video games, Bluepoint Games confirmed that their next project is going to be another remake. The interview confirms what was previously reported about Bluepoint’s next move.
When asked by Digital Foundry if they were thinking of developing their own original game, Bluepoint president & co-founder, Marco Thrush, said that Bluepoint could create their own game but their next project was going to be a remake.
Thrush said that the Shadow of the Colossus remake improved the developer’s art team significantly and this was needed since their next remake is “a bit bigger.”
“And our next focus is, all right, let’s work on design and add new stuff to get to the next remake, because now that can be our sole focus of making sure that’s where we put the time and everybody else, they’re already at a level where we can perform,” continued Thrush.
However, an original game from Bluepoint in the future isn’t entirely out of the question says Peter Dalton, Bluepoint’s technical director. Dalton explained that the development of the Shadow of the Colossus remake caused Bluepoint’s team to grow which made the developer look at its weaknesses.
“One area that we’ve not explored very deeply is, ‘What does our design prowess looks like? What is our ability to build something original and to expand it, rather than just upgrading something?’ and so we look at those things and we are constantly trying to enhance and strengthen the studio to get to a point where, yeah, doing original development or whatever comes our way, we’re fully capable of doing it,” said Dalton.
The last original title Bluepoint Games made was Blast Factor, a 2006 PS3 shooter game that they co-developed with the developers of the God of War series, Santa Monica Studios. Since then Bluepoint has made almost nothing but remasters and the PS4 version of Shadow of the Colossus was their first remake.
