NBA 2K18 Scores Big Time as the Top-Selling Sports Game of 2017
Last year was a big year for sports titles. From football and hockey, to baseball and basketball, and even soccer and wrestling, there was no shortage of games for the sports fans of the industry. In the end, regardless of the usual titans in the genre, 2K Sports proved themselves dominant once again with NBA 2K18 netting the win as the top-selling sports game of last year!
Whether that comes as a surprise to you or not, the NPD Group has just released their sales numbers for the top-selling titles of 2017, and NBA 2K18 kicked some serious ass all around. In fact, if it wasn’t for the huge return of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise to the top of the charts, with COD: WWII, it would’ve taken the number one spot as the best-selling game of the year. Yes, you read that right, it came in as the second top-selling title of the year. And that’s in a year full of massively popular and highly acclaimed games like Super Mario Odyssey, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
NPD Group has noted that NBA 2K18 is the best selling entry in franchise history, even beating out the previous year’s success story in NBA 2K17. The game has sold 9 million copies and could be due in part to the fact that in addition to catering to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC users, the franchise also took advantage of the Nintendo Switch.
