Destiny 2 Losing Players on Console

Maybe People are Holding Out For the PC Version?

Destiny 2 is coming out in just a few days for the PC. Apparently everyone is waiting to play this version of the game, because the two console versions have been steadily losing players for the last month. Around two million players, to be specific.

Destiny 2 losing players

All of this data comes from a site called Destiny Tracker. The game peaked with 3.5 million players on September 16th. Since then, the numbers have been dropping, with the most recent player counts clocking in at 1.5 million as of October 19th. That’s an enormous plunge in 30 days. So what happened?

Perhaps there’s more people than anyone realized waiting for the PC version to come out. There’s nothing in the game’s reviews to indicate any points of contention, certainly not in our own review of the game. Or, maybe this is a natural drop-off in stats following the game’s initial release. There will surely be another swell in player stats after the PC version drops this week. Will we see a similar recession in the player counts by the end of November? Or was everyone just holding out for the PC release? Only time will tell.
