Anthem’s Lead Animator Has Left the Project & BioWare

Is Anthem in Trouble at All?

We’ve been excited about BioWare’s next venture ever since Anthem previewed at E3 2016, but it seems the developer just lost a big member. According to his LinkedIn profile, development team member Steve Gilmour has left the building.

Anthem

Gilmour has been a member of BioWare for 17 years and has sunk his hands into many major projects. These include Knights of the Old Republic, the Mass Effect trilogy, and the more recent Dragon Age: Inquisition. For Anthem, he took on a major role as lead animator. Therefore, his loss is significant. Has his departure impacted the development at all? If it has, we won’t know the extent until later down the road. Best case scenario is that he finished the great majority of his work.

Of course, no IP ever rests on the shoulders of one person; that said, let’s hope the developer can fill his shoes soon. We are still a year away from the release of Anthem, so BioWare may have enough time to get back on track.

In the context of recent developments—the shut down of Visceral Studios by EA and news that the publisher doesn’t care about its players, Gilmour’s departure is interesting, to say the least.

Anthem is scheduled for release sometime in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Stay tuned for updates as time goes by.
