New Demo of Fan-Created Sonic 2 HD Out Today

Sonic 2 Recreated with HD Graphics

With Sonic Mania being a Sonic fan’s dream brought to fruition, the nostalgia for the blue hedgehog is understandably high. Unlike other game companies, Sega has a more forgiving attitude towards fan projects. Heck, one such Sonic fan game creator, Taxman, was brought on to help co-develop Sonic Mania. And, blasting out from the Sonic fan game community is Sonic 2 HD which hopes to capture what Sonic 2 would look like in HD graphics.

Sonic 2 HD

It’s been a project that has a pretty long history at this point with roots dating back to 2008. The first demo for Sonic 2 HD was released in 2008 while this new one just dropped today. From their site, the project is described:

From the very beginning of the project, Sonic 2 HD has focused on maintaining the feel that has made Sonic the Hedgehog 2 a classic while using new tools to reimagine the original as it could have been were it made today. The game’s art direction reflects this, but Sonic 2 HD has also given equal attention to unseen essential elements in the physics and audio. The result of this is an unprecedented re-interpretation in high definition graphics, music and gameplay of Sonic 2, which continues to set quality standards to this day.
