Tomb Raider Story Details Revealed
As we previously reported, the new Tomb Raider movie will be released worldwide on March 28, 2018. The new film will follow two previous Tomb Raider movies and production is well under way for the film. Back in February we shared with you some pictures from the set where Alicia Vikander looked like a badass Lara Croft. Today, we received more details about the movie and now we have a good idea of what to expect when the new Tomb Raider movie hits the theaters next spring.
As we mentioned in the title, there are spoilers here so you have been warned…
In terms of the storyline, Lara Croft, played by Alicia Vikander, will start this origin story as a bike messenger. The Splash Report indicates the following:
“She’s living the college life partying it up with her roommate Sophie. Her father Richard (Dominic West) disappeared seven years ago somewhere in Hong Kong. His body has never been found. An executive from the Croft Holdings tries to convince Lara to take over the company. After receiving a key, she goes back to her childhood home and discovers a secret room.
As always, Lara Croft’s father precedes her as an iconic explorer and archaeologist, and its his legacy that leads her into her adventure initially. In the new movie we’re told that he was “obsessed with finding the mysterious tomb of Queen Himiko a.k.a. The Deathmaker.”
She finds a map leading to an island in the South China Sea. Once in Hong Kong, she enlists the help of Boat Captain Lu Ren (Daniel Wu) to get her to the dangerous destination. The TRINITY organization sends Vogel (Walton Goggins) and a team of mercenaries to get to the mysterious island first. Once there, both groups face off in a race to uncover the mystery.
We’re told that this is a more straight-forward and intimate adventure spanning three major locations: London, Hong King, and a mysterious island which we learned in the previous synopsis is off the coast of Japan. We’re told that the new Lara Croft is set up as a fun and adventurous character that we want to root for, and that’s good news. That’s why we were such big fans of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot and Rise of the Tomb Raider.”
We have said it before and we will say it again, this Tomb Raider reboot is shaping into a gem of a Tomb Raider movie.
