Is Sega’s Secret Countdown Timer Hinting At Bayonetta?

Counting Down…..But To What?

Sega has a mysterious count down timer running but for what? It has not been confirmed for certain but a rash of hints certainly seem to point at Bayonetta. The group launched an April Fool’s Day prank themed prank on Steam that had a secret hidden within.

The prank was called 8-Bit Bayonetta , and is a cute little 2D side scroller shooter that’s free to download, and has already been released in the past as a web game. But the game hides some secrets in its achievements. Two of the game’s achievements hide a special URL, that directs to the countdown site. Once you get to the site, you see the numbers steadily counting down and a faint outline of an iconic high heeled boot.

bayonettaIt has since been confirmed on Reddit that the image is from the original Bayonetta, but what this means still remains unclear. There is some speculation that the announcement being on Steam preludes a PC release of the original title. But at this point, that is just a guess. The last time Bayonetta was seen, was as downloadable content for Super Smash Bros.

There was a Bayonetta 2 released for Wii U, and a remastered version of the first title for the Wii U as well. So the secret announcement could be a PC version of the remaster, but we can’t rule out a Bayonetta 3 at this point in time. The original title was certainly a crowd pleaser, so a third title could be in the cards.

Well, what do you think? Would either option appeal to you? Bayonetta 3? Or on Steam? Let us know in the comments!
